UMC Business English Course Overview
With English used around the world in international business, more and more individuals are finding that they require the specialized language of Business English. This course is designed to improve students' ability and confidence in conducting business or professional activities in English. It focuses on skills such as conducting meetings, negotiating, giving presentations, writing reports, business and cover letters, memorandum, resume and job interview preparation and using the telephone. This course is of interest to students planning to pursue a career which requires Business English skills, or for professionals already in the field who want to improve their ability and confidence.
The Program is an intensive, goal-orientated course designed to improve your Business English skills rapidly and effectively. It is very learner oriented, provides education freedom, divergent thinking and active learning combined with task based lessons or activity.
During the course students will:

Develop their confidence in speaking Business English

Activate their vocabulary and knowledge of grammatical structures

Improve their social English in business situations (socializing, small talk, introducing your business, product and self)

Typically our students come from various parts of the world to study in an intensive and challenging environment. The chance to mix with business people from a wide range of diverse cultures provides the opportunity to develop language and cultural skills both inside and outside the classroom. Weekly Field Trips and assignments include visit to: St Lawrence Market where students compare the customer service between two different types of businesses; Scotia Bank where they learn about the different types of services the Bank provides through seminar and tour of the facility; Job Fair (students gain exposure to Canadian Employers, attend seminars or workshops on Resume Writing, Networking through Social Media); Apple Canada Store (where they learn about using the latest technology in Business through workshop); Kensington Market (where they learn about the cultural diversity of our city through research and personal interviews with Business owners); IKEA Store(students perform a Brand Management Assignment after enjoying a Breakfast Meeting) and lots more.
